MYRTLE BEACH, SC — Ocean Boulevard will close between Eighth and Ninth Avenues North this weekend as Myrtle Beach welcomes thousands of visitors for the eighth annual Waves of Praise Gospel Fest, a two‑day celebration featuring nationally recognized gospel artists, regional performers, food vendors and family activities along the oceanfront.
The city announced the temporary closure Thursday, noting that the festival’s stage layout, pedestrian volume and safety requirements make it necessary to restrict vehicle access in the immediate area. Drivers are encouraged to plan alternate routes around Ocean Boulevard during event hours.
Waves of Praise has grown steadily since its launch, becoming one of the region’s largest outdoor gospel gatherings. Organizers say the festival is designed to highlight both established and emerging artists while offering a free, family‑friendly environment for residents and visitors.
This year’s lineup includes several Grammy and Stellar Award‑winning performers. Scheduled artists include Dorinda Clark Cole, John P. Kee & New Life, Luther Barnes, Tim Rogers, Jarell Smalls, Melvin Crispell III, Beverly Crawford and Lisa Knowles‑Smith & The Brown Singers. Local choirs and regional groups will also take the stage throughout the weekend.
Festival activities take place at Burroughs and Chapin Pavilion Place, located at 812 North Ocean Boulevard. In addition to live music, attendees can expect food trucks, children’s activities and vendor booths offering merchandise and community outreach information.
The event schedule is as follows: • 6 p.m., Friday, September 4 – Gospel Fest, Burroughs and Chapin Pavilion Place • 4 p.m., Saturday, September 5 – Gospel Fest, Burroughs and Chapin Pavilion Place
City officials say the festival typically draws large crowds, and visitors should anticipate heavy foot traffic near the pavilion and surrounding blocks. Parking availability may vary depending on arrival time and nearby private lots.
The Waves of Praise Gospel Fest continues to be free and open to the public.
