SOUTHPORT, NC — The City of Southport has appointed Judy Singletary as its next Parks and Recreation Director, with her first day scheduled for September 29.
City Manager Noah Saldo announced the selection Tuesday, highlighting Singletary’s nearly 30 years of experience in municipal recreation leadership, program development, operations, budgeting, and community engagement.
A Wilmington native, Singletary began her parks and recreation career with the City of Wilmington in 1997, advancing through several roles before moving into management. Since 2017, she has served as Recreation Manager for the Town of Mooresville. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Business Management and Organizational Development from Mount Olive College and a master’s degree in Youth Development Leadership from Clemson University. She is also a Certified Parks and Recreation Professional.
Singletary has overseen more than 50 recreation programs annually, managed multimillion‑dollar operating budgets, cultivated community partnerships, and led strategic initiatives. She also guided summer camp programs through successful accreditation by the American Camp Association.
“Judy brings the experience, leadership, and vision needed to move Southport’s Parks and Recreation Department forward,” Saldo said. “Her commitment to creating meaningful recreational opportunities for people of all ages will be a tremendous asset to our community.”
Singletary will step into the role later this month as Southport continues expanding recreational offerings and long‑term planning efforts.
