Howard Warner – Southport NC

Howard Warner, age 68, passed away on September 7, 2026. He was hard-working, generous, smart, and caring. He fought a hard fight against pancreatic cancer for 21 months. He died at home with his wife, daughter, and sister-in-law at his side.

Howard was born on July 12, 1958 in Akron, Ohio to Bernard and Mary Warner. He met his future wife Pam in 1983 at their apartment complex in Wixom, Michigan. They married September 28, 1985 in Michigan. He died three weeks short of their 41st anniversary.

Howard had a long career in the insurance industry, primarily with Travelers Insurance Companies. His job took the family from Michigan to Florida, Georgia, and Minnesota, but they settled in Ellicott City, Maryland for many years. After a successful career as a national property underwriter, he retired in 2021 and he and Pam happily moved south to the beach in the St. James neighborhood in Southport, North Carolina.

Howard’s friends will remember his quick wit and his uncanny memory for sports statistics, especially for his favorite Baltimore Orioles and Ravens. He loved travel, particularly on road trips in one of his two MINI Coopers and trips to Aruba and Hawaii. He volunteered his time several days a week at the SOIICF Food Pantry and in the St. James neighborhood. He was an assistant Scoutmaster for many years in Maryland. He was always quick to help, his expertise ranged from yard work to car maintenance to financial advice to weather and music.

He is survived by his beloved wife Pam, his daughter Jana, and his little cat Nina who never left his side. The extended family includes Scott Warner, sister-in-law Kathryn Uijtermerk, nephew Axel, and niece Ava. He will be missed by countless friends, new and old, from all over the county. His legacy will live on in our fond memories.

A Celebration of Life ceremony will be held on October 3, 1-3pm at the Waterway Park in the St. James Plantation neighborhood, 2713 St. James Drive, Southport, NC 28461.
