Horry County, SC — It’s a good day to have a good day, and Squad 18 certainly made one for a four‑legged friend in need.
Earlier today, an Horry County Fire Rescue crew from Station 18 (Stephens Crossroads) responded to an apartment complex after reports that a dog had been barking throughout the night. The caller believed the animal was stuck down an embankment in a creek and unable to get back up.
Crews deployed a ladder and put to use the new dog leashes now carried on all HCFR apparatus, allowing firefighters to reach the stranded pup safely and without harm. Once retrieved, the dog was placed in the care of an environmental services officer with Horry County Police Department, who is working to reunite the lost animal with its owner.
HCFR noted that the call was another example of crews using every resource available to help anyone — and any creature — who needs assistance.
