Bladen County emergency crews discovered a burned body Tuesday afternoon while responding to a barn fire on Barney Coe Road in the White Lake Fire District.
According to Bladen County Emergency Management, firefighters were dispatched at 3:00 p.m. to a structure fire involving a barn. Whiile working the scene, responders located human remains in the surrounding area.
Officials said the individual may be the property owner, but identification has not yet been confirmed.
The body has been sent to the state medical examiner for evaluation. The cause of the fire and the cause of death remain under investigation.
Bladen County authorities have not released additional details.
