SUNSET BEACH, NC — The Town of Sunset Beach Town Council will convene for its regular monthly meeting on Monday, November 2, 2026. The council will kick off the afternoon with a closed executive session at 4:00 p.m. to consult with the town attorney under attorney-client privilege, as allowed by North Carolina General Statute 143-318-11(a)(3). The regular public meeting will officially open to the public at 5:00 p.m. at Town Hall.

Here is a breakdown of the major items on the council’s agenda:

1. Public Hearing: Strict RV & Boat Parking Rules

The highlight of the legislative session is a public hearing and potential board vote on proposed updates to the Town’s Unified Development Ordinance (UDO).

Presented by Ron Satterfield, the proposed text amendments target Sections 3.6.J and 3.31 of the ordinance. The updates aim to establish clearer regulations governing:

  • Utility connections for Recreational Vehicles (RVs) within town limits.

  • Parking personal vehicles and boats on vacant lots, a topic of ongoing community discussion regarding land use and neighborhood aesthetics.

Residents will have an opportunity to speak directly on this issue during the designated public hearing segment.

2. Infrastructure & Procurement Policy Updates

Under New Business, Mayor Phillips will introduce several key town administration items:

  • Road Conditions Survey: Council members will consider an addendum to the town’s Master Services Contract to fund and execute a comprehensive survey assessing local road infrastructure.

  • Procurement Policy Updates: Revisions to the town’s purchasing and contracting guidelines will be presented for review.

  • Board & Commission Membership Policy: Proposed updates outlining governance and rules for citizen board members.

3. Proposed 2027 Council Calendar Changes

Mayor Phillips is also proposing several strategic changes to the town’s operational schedule for the upcoming year:

  • Shifting time slots for public forums.

  • Adding dedicated Agenda Briefing sessions prior to regular meetings.

  • Delaying the January 2027 regular meeting to accommodate holiday schedules.

4. Routine Business & Public Comment

The council will also review and approve routine business on the consent agenda, including prior meeting draft minutes and monthly reports from Building Inspections, the Fire Department, Police Department, and Public Works.

How to Participate:

  • Specific Agenda Comments: Open following the UDO Public Hearing (Item 10).

  • General Community Comments: Reserved toward the end of the meeting (Item 15).
