CONWAY, SC — A nearly 24-hour multi-agency manhunt spanning from Myrtle Beach to Conway came to an end Saturday afternoon following the arrest of a Virginia man wanted for attempted murder.
Dorian Evans was taken into custody around 5:26 p.m. on Saturday, October 31, according to the Horry County Police Department.
The incident began shortly after 6:30 p.m. on Friday, October 30, when Myrtle Beach Police Department (MBPD) officers spotted Evans inside a vehicle near the intersection of North Kings Highway and 1st Avenue South. When officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop, Evans fled northbound, prompting MBPD to initiate a pursuit and request assistance from Horry County authorities.
The vehicle chase continued out of the city limits until terminating on Highway 22 near Highway 501, where Evans abandoned the car and fled on foot into nearby terrain.
The search prompted local authorities to close Highway 22 in both directions between Highway 319 and Highway 501 for several hours Friday night. Multiple agencies—including the Myrtle Beach Police Department, Horry County Police Department, Conway Police Department, and the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED)—joined forces to establish a perimeter and locate the suspect.
At 10:50 p.m. Friday, officials issued a CodeRED alert to residents within a four-mile radius of the search area, advising the public of the ongoing operation. Roadways were eventually reopened to traffic shortly after 12:30 a.m. Saturday.
By Saturday afternoon, police reassured the public that there was no immediate threat to the area before successfully taking Evans into custody later that day.
Authorities stated that the investigation remains active and ongoing, with additional charges or updates expected as the case progresses.
All individuals named in this report are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law. Charges and case statuses may change as investigations and court proceedings continue.
