Horry County, SC — The Horry County Fire Rescue (HCFR) staff, alongside members of the Horry County Police Department, county leadership, colleagues, family, and friends, gathered to honor a very special retiree: K-9 Crosby. After eight remarkable years of service as an accelerant-detection dog, Crosby is hanging up his badge.

A Storied Career in Public Safety

At nearly 11 years old, Crosby began his dedicated career in 2018 alongside investigator Capt. Rice within the Investigation Unit. Throughout his service, Crosby proved to be an essential asset in both proving and disproving arson. Over the past eight years, he responded to thousands of fire incidents and participated in countless community risk reduction events, making a lasting impact on Horry County.

A Well-Deserved Retirement

During a ceremony at the M. L. Brown Public Safety Building in Conway, Chief Tanner presented Crosby with a commemorative plaque and a celebratory meal loaded with plenty of dog treats.

Though he is stepping away from active duty, Crosby will remain a beloved member of the HCFR family as he transitions into a relaxing retirement at the Rice household.
