CONWAY, SC — Sgt. Liz Orlando is being honored for three decades of service with the Horry County Sheriff’s Office, marking a milestone that reflects both longevity and deep commitment to the agency.
Sheriff Philip Thompson affectionately nicknamed her “Lil’ Bit,” a lighthearted reference to her stature that contrasts with the weight of her dedication. Orlando began her career at the J. Reuben Long Detention Center at just 22 years old, stepping into a demanding environment that would define her professional path.
She went on to earn recognition as Supervisor of the Year from the South Carolina Jail Administrators Association and now leads the Sheriff’s Office Transportation Department, a role requiring precision, trust, and steady leadership.
Colleagues say Orlando is known for treating her fellow officers like family – a reputation built through mentorship, reliability, and a work ethic that has shaped the culture around her.
