Brunswick County will open its voting‑equipment accuracy checks to the public, with limited in‑person space and a live Zoom stream available for remote viewers
Bolivia, NC — Brunswick County election officials will begin their pre‑election logic and accuracy testing on Monday, September 14, as part of the county’s standard preparation for the upcoming general election. The multi‑day process is designed to confirm that ballots, scanners, and all voting‑system components are correctly programmed and functioning as intended before voters cast their official ballots.
The testing uses ballots from a mock election, which are marked and run through the tabulators. Staff then compare the tabulated results to the expected outcomes for each contest to ensure the machines are reading and reporting votes accurately. A bipartisan team is responsible for preparing the equipment, conducting the tests, and verifying that each device meets state requirements.
Once testing is complete, officials will reset the machines to remove all test data. Each piece of equipment will then be sealed with a logged security tag, a step that documents the chain of custody and confirms the machines remain secured until Election Day.
Testing will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, September 14, at the Brunswick County Board of Elections office at 75 Stamp Act Drive NE, Building H, in Bolivia. The process will continue daily until all equipment has been verified, with testing scheduled from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Monday, 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, and 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on both Wednesday and Thursday.
Space for in‑person observation is limited, but the Board of Elections will also provide a live Zoom stream for those who wish to watch remotely.
