The Cooking Corner: Italian Bread

With fall and winter just around the corner it is time to shift to some baking.  Who doesn’t like fresh baked bread in the cold months?  I know I love it and now you will too. This is very easy to make and your entire family will love it.

Ingredients
1 Package Dry Active Yeast
2 Cups Warm Water
2 tsp Salt
1 tsp Sugar
5+ Cups All Purpose Flour
Directions
Step 1 – Add Yeast, Sugar, Salt and Water to a bowl and whisk gently to dissolve all.

Step 2 – Add 3 cups of flour and mix for about 5 mins. Add 2 more cups of flour and continue to mix for 5 to 8 more minutes.

Step 3 – On a floured surface place your dough and add another ½ cup of flour and knead for at least 5 minutes. Once dough is ready it should be smooth and not sticky. It might be slightly sticky but make sure it is no longer sticking to your hands.

Step 4 – In a greased bowl place your dough and flip it a couple of times to make sure all sides have oil on them. Cover and let sit for 60 minutes or until doubled in size.

Step 5 – On a floured surface place your dough and punch it down. Cut into two equal parts and shape into a loaf. Place on parchment paper on a tray and let sit for another 30 to 60 minutes until doubled in size. In the meantime set oven to 450 degrees and let it preheat while your dough rises.

Step 6 – Put three slashes across each loaf and place in the oven on the middle rack and cook for 15 to 20 mins.

Step 7 – Remove your bread from the oven, let cool, cut and serve or use for a nice sandwich. Enjoy!
