David “Dingo” Allan Owens, 63, of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, passed away on August 18, 2026, at his home on Taurus Lane.
Born on November 1, 1962, in Washington, DC at Sibley Hospital, David was the beloved son of John Elvin Owens. He is survived by his two sons, Allan Owens (23) (Layla Owens) and Ben Owens (21) (Dakota Headley), who deeply miss him, as well as his brother, Chris Owens, and sister-in-law, Ronda Owens. He was preceded by his mother, Diane Bell Owens, brother, Michael Owens (Julie Owens) and Steve Owens.
David’s life was centered around family, friends, and his cherished dogs, Tessa and Scarr. He proudly served in the U.S. Army for four years as an infantry machine gunner, spending many months in Korea—a highlight of his military career. After leaving the Army, David continued his professional journey as a mechanic with Prince Georges County Fleet Services, later advancing to become a Mechanic Manager for several local stores.
He met Sandy Carr in April 2012 and together they built a life filled with love and companionship. David later worked at Ridgell Oil Company in Loveville, Maryland, before he and Sandy moved to Myrtle Beach to be closer to family. In retirement, David enjoyed spending time with Sandy’s children, Christine Ballew (Mike Ballew) and Jeremy Carr (Casey Burch) and their beloved grandchildren who David would often babysit Jaylin Carr (13), Michael Ballew (7), Graceylyn (4), and Charleigh (1).
After the family said their goodbyes to David at the Myrtle Beach Funeral Home on Friday, August 21, 2026 we celebrated at David’s favorite spot, Pearadise (Garden City Pier) with family and friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held in Maryland in late September, where family and friends will gather to honor David’s memory.
