WHITEVILLE, NC — The Columbus County Health Department has finalized its plan to expand access to free Naloxone (Narcan), offering the overdose‑reversal medication to any resident who wants to be prepared during an opioid emergency.
Naloxone can quickly restore breathing when someone is experiencing an opioid overdose, giving bystanders a critical window to act while first responders are en route. Health officials say making the medication widely available is one of the most effective ways communities can reduce preventable deaths.
The program is free, confidential, and open to all, with no appointment required. Each kit includes clear, easy‑to‑follow instructions so residents feel confident using Naloxone if they ever need to.
Kits are available while supplies last at two Whiteville locations: 604 N. Madison Street and 800 Jefferson Street, Unit 102.
County health leaders say the goal is simple: increase preparedness and save lives.
