Mary Elizabeth Mayes, 82, of Whiteville, NC, died Tuesday, September 15, 2026.
Mary Elizabeth was preceded in death by her husband Jerald Mayes; parents, Chalmers and Josephine Rabon, sister Hilda Newman, and parents-in-law, J.D. And Helen Mayes.
Mary Elizabeth is survived by her sons Rabon Mayes and wife, Mona of Fort Mill, SC, and Craig Mayes and wife, Denise, of Mooresville. She leaves behind three grandchildren: Victoria Casasola and husband, Sebastian, of Greensboro, Salem Griffith and husband, Matt, of Mt. Pleasant, SC, and 1Lt Grant Mayes, USA, and fiancée, MaryKate McCoy, of Cameron; sisters Brenda Brand and husband, Jim, of Butner, Billie Ann Lane and husband, Colon, of Myrtle Beach, SC, and a sister-in-law, Sherry West and husband, Jimmy, of Charlotte.
Mrs. Mayes was employed as a teacher at Bladenboro Elementary until her retirement. She was a member of Lennon’s Crossroads Baptist Church, where she enjoyed singing in the choir.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 26, 2026 at Chadbourn Memorial Cemetery.
