Minor tidal flooding and dangerous surf conditions expected through Monday morning along coastal waterways and beaches.
COASTAL BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC — The National Weather Service in Wilmington has issued a Coastal Flood Advisory and Beach Hazards Statement for Coastal Brunswick County, warning residents and visitors of minor flooding in low-lying areas and hazardous ocean conditions through 10:00 a.m. Monday.
The advisory covers areas along the Intracoastal Waterway and adjacent tidal creeks throughout Coastal Brunswick County.
Forecasters warn that up to one foot of inundation is possible in vulnerable low-lying locations during periods of high tide. Minor flooding may affect roads near tidal waterways and other flood-prone areas.
In addition to the flooding threat, strong longshore currents are expected along local beaches. These conditions can increase the risk of swimmers and surfers being swept into rip currents or hazardous shoreline structures.
Officials encourage residents to allow extra travel time in areas prone to flooding and to avoid driving through flooded roadways or around barricades.
Property owners in historically flood-prone locations should take precautions to protect belongings from rising water.
Beachgoers are advised to exercise caution and consult lifeguards regarding surf conditions before entering the ocean.
The Coastal Flood Advisory and Beach Hazards Statement remain in effect until 10:00 a.m. Monday.
