THE CAROLINAS — Local broadcasters across Brunswick, Columbus, and Horry counties will briefly interrupt regular programming on Tuesday, November 17, at ~2:20 p.m. ET for a mandatory nationwide Emergency Alert System (EAS) test.

The routine test is conducted jointly by FEMA and the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to ensure critical warning infrastructure functions properly ahead of severe weather and emergency situations.

What Residents Need to Know:

TV and Radio Only: The test will air exclusively on broadcast television, cable, satellite, and radio.

No Cell Phone Alerts: Mobile phones will not receive alerts during this test.

No Action Required: The standard audio tone and screen message will indicate that it is only a test. No public action or calls to emergency services are necessary.

Federal law mandates nationwide EAS testing at least once every three years to verify broadcast system reliability across local and national networks.
