FDA RECALL: Wise Wife Ground Cinnamon Recalled Over Elevated Lead Levels

Federal health officials are warning consumers to inspect their spice racks following a voluntary recall of imported ground cinnamon sold across North Carolina and 13 other states.

Importer SLR Food Distribution Inc. issued the recall for Wise Wife brand ground cinnamon after regulatory testing detected elevated lead levels. Distributed between September 2025 and June 2026 to independent markets and regional grocers, the recall is part of an ongoing FDA effort to intercept contaminated imported spices.

  • Brand: Wise Wife
  • Item: Ground Cinnamon (110g / 3.88 oz clear container, black cap)
  • UPC: 0688474302754
  • Best Before Date: April 25, 2027 (or 4/25/2027)

No illnesses have been reported. However, health agencies warn that lead exposure rarely causes immediate symptoms, allowing heavy metals to build up over time.

Infants, young children, and pregnant women are at the greatest risk. In children, chronic exposure can cause nervous system damage and developmental delays. Adult exposure can lead to kidney issues and high blood pressure.fda

Stop using the recalled spice immediately. Discard the container in a sealed trash bag or return it to the place of purchase for a full refund. Wash any utensils or surfaces that came in contact with the cinnamon.

Consult a doctor if you suspect exposure. For recall questions, contact SLR Food Distribution Inc. at 516-437-3782 or email slrusaorder@gmail.com
