Conway, SC — Authorities continue to investigate a fatal crash that occurred along Cates Bay Highway in the Conway area during the early morning hours of November 1st.
According to information released by the South Carolina Highway Patrol, a driver operating a 2018 Kia Optima died after the vehicle left the roadway near Johnson Street shortly before 2:00 a.m.
Officials said the driver was attempting to evade law enforcement at the time of the incident. Investigators have not publicly released additional details about the circumstances that led to the pursuit.
The vehicle traveled off the highway and collided with multiple objects before coming to rest. The driver died from injuries sustained in the crash.
Authorities have not released the driver’s identity pending notification procedures and continuing investigative efforts. Investigators also reported narcotics were recovered from the vehicle following the collision.
The case remains under investigation.
