Equipment removal continues as final phase shifts toward dune restoration
Grand Strand, SC — Sand pumping operations for the Grand Strand Renourishment Project have officially concluded, marking the end of the emergency beach renourishment effort that began in December. The dredge wrapped up work last weekend and is no longer visible from the shoreline, though crews remain on site to remove equipment from several areas of Horry County.
The Calhoun Drive Beach Access will stay closed a bit longer while demobilization continues. An additional closure is in place near 6th and 7th avenues North in Surfside Beach. The contractor, hired by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, expects all equipment removal to be finished around the end of the month.
In the months ahead, residents and visitors will see the project’s final phase begin with the installation of sand fencing and dune signage. That work will not require beach closures.
Officials thanked the public for its patience as crews work safely and efficiently to clear the remaining equipment from the coastline.
