Brunswick County, NC — A series of community blood drives will take place throughout Brunswick County in October as the American Red Cross works to bolster regional supplies heading into the fall season. Multiple churches and community organizations will host donation events, offering whole‑blood appointments and, in some cases, Power Red options for eligible donors.
The month’s first event is set for Thursday, October 8, at Camp United Methodist Church, located at 4807 Main Street in Shallotte. Donation hours run from 1:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Whole‑blood donations typically take about an hour and remain the most common type collected at community drives.
A second mid‑month drive will be held in Bolivia, sponsored by Brunswick Community College. That event is scheduled from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and will offer standard whole‑blood donation appointments.
Later in the month, Shallotte Presbyterian Church will host a drive on Monday, October 26, from 1:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. at 5070 MH Rourk Drive.
On Wednesday, October 28, St. Luke Lutheran Church in Ocean Isle Beach will hold a drive from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Plan for generally about an hour from arrival to completion.
The month concludes with a combined whole‑blood and Power Red drive on Thursday, October 29, at the Palmetto Creek Club House, located at 1195 Palmetto Creek Way in Bolivia. Hours run from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., and the event is sponsored by the Palmetto Creek Community. Power Red donations collect red cells while returning most plasma and platelets to the donor. This option is reserved for donors who meet specific height, weight, and hemoglobin requirements and who have type A‑negative, B‑negative, or O‑type blood.
