CONWAY, SC — A Conway man has been sentenced to 10 years in prison after pleading guilty Friday to attempted armed robbery, according to Fifteenth Circuit Solicitor Jimmy Richardson.
Eric Lamont Deery, 24, entered the plea before his trial was scheduled to begin Monday. Assistant Solicitors Jim Stanko and Jess Glasgow prosecuted the case for the Fifteenth Circuit Solicitor’s Office.
Circuit Court Judge David Caraker sentenced Deery to 10 years. Attempted armed robbery is classified under South Carolina law as a violent offense and a “most serious” strike under the state’s Two Strikes statute. Deery must serve at least 85 % of the sentence before becoming eligible for supervised release.
Prosecutors said the crime occurred on August 31, 2023, when Deery and Tyquan McCrea approached a woman at the end of her driveway in Myrtle Beach as she was taking out her trash. The pair allegedly ordered her back inside her home at gunpoint. While inside, Deery took the victim’s phone and used it to send $370 to his own CashApp account.
Investigators used exterior video footage and the CashApp transaction information to identify Deery, leading to his arrest. McCrea’s case remains pending.
