LAKE WACCAMAW, NC (Oct. 16, 2026) — Local emergency crews responded within minutes Friday to safely locate a boater taking on water on Lake Waccamaw, municipal officials announced in a release.
The incident unfolded after a distress call reported a boat potentially taking on water. First responders acted immediately: crews launched a rescue vessel within four minutes of receiving the alert and successfully located the stranded boater within ten minutes.
The swift operation relied on direct coordination between the Lake Waccamaw Police Department and the Lake Waccamaw Fire & Rescue Department.
“This incident is a great example of what can be accomplished when our Police Department and Fire & Rescue Department work together toward a common goal,” said Mayor Greg Jacobs. “Their quick response, coordination, and willingness to act made a difference when every minute mattered.”
Town officials reminded all boaters and visitors to inspect their equipment before heading onto the lake, exercise caution on the water, and call emergency services immediately if assistance is needed.
