CHADBOURN, NC — Residents and municipal water customers in the Town of Chadbourn are placed under a precautionary boil water advisory beginning Tuesday, October 27, 2026, as utility crews undertake major infrastructure upgrades across the municipal water system.

Town officials announced that the advisory is necessary to accommodate critical water line maintenance, specifically the decommissioning and removal of aging water mains and the integration of newly installed lines into active service.

Planned Outages & Nighttime Work Schedule

To minimize disruption to businesses and households during peak daytime hours, utility crews are executing scheduled water main work during overnight hours. System outages are scheduled to occur nightly from 8:00 p.m. until 4:00 a.m..

The boil water advisory takes effect Tuesday morning and will remain active until further notice pending completion of the main tie-ins and subsequent laboratory testing.

Guidance for Municipal Water Customers

During a boil water advisory, depressurization in water lines increases the risk of soil or environmental contaminants entering the distribution network. Town officials strongly advise water customers to adhere to the following safety precautions:

  • Boil All Consumption Water: Any water intended for drinking, making ice, brushing teeth, washing dishes, and food preparation should be brought to a full, vigorous rolling boil for at least one minute prior to use.

  • Alternative Water Sources: Bottled water should be utilized for drinking and cooking whenever possible.

  • Conservation Urged: Municipal customers are strongly encouraged to conserve water during the outage and repair periods to help maintain system pressure across town.

The advisory will remain in place until town officials collect bacteriological samples and confirm through state-certified laboratory analysis that the water meets all health and safety standards.

Residents seeking additional information regarding the outage schedule or advisory details are asked to contact Chadbourn Town Hall directly.
