Community members connect with local healthcare professionals during orthopedic education program
By Coastal Carolina News Staff Writer
SOUTHPORT, NC — Residents from across the Southport area recently gathered at Dosher Memorial Hospital for an evening designed to answer questions, ease concerns and provide practical information about orthopedic care available close to home.
The community event, titled “Beyond Joint Pain: Understanding Your Options,” brought together physicians, healthcare professionals, patients and local residents for discussions focused on joint pain, treatment options and recovery from orthopedic procedures.
Guests heard presentations from EmergeOrtho orthopedic surgeons Dr. Pruess and Dr. Singh, who discussed common orthopedic conditions and the range of treatment options available to patients. Attendees were also able to ask questions and learn more about the advances in orthopedic care now available within their community.
Beyond the physician presentations, the event offered residents an opportunity to meet members of Dosher’s Surgical Services and Physical Therapy teams. Staff members shared information about what patients can expect before surgery, during hospitalization and throughout the rehabilitation process.
One of the evening’s most personal moments came when Jane Thomas shared her rehabilitation journey through Dosher’s Physical Therapy Department. Her experience provided attendees with a firsthand perspective on recovery and highlighted the role therapy plays in helping patients return to daily activities following treatment.
Community members also had the chance to get an up-close look at Dosher’s robotic-assisted surgical system, which is frequently used in hip and knee replacement procedures.
This demonstration allowed attendees to better understand how technology is being used to support patient care and surgical precision.
Hospital representatives said the event was intended to help local residents feel more informed and confident when making decisions about orthopedic care. Topics covered included treatment options for chronic joint pain, advances in surgical technology and the steps patients can expect before, during and after surgery.
The program reflected Dosher Memorial Hospital’s ongoing effort to provide educational opportunities that connect community members with local healthcare resources while helping residents better understand services available in Brunswick County.
As demand for orthopedic care continues to grow among active adults and aging populations, events such as “Beyond Joint Pain” provide residents with an opportunity to ask questions directly, learn from healthcare professionals and become familiar with treatment options available without traveling far from home.
