RALEIGH, NC — The North Carolina State Fair concluded its 11-day annual run on Sunday, drawing 910,584 attendees to Raleigh for livestock competitions, family entertainment, agricultural exhibits, and new ground installations.
State officials highlighted strong daily turnout across the 11-day schedule, noting that overall attendance remained on par with 2025 levels outside of a single rainy day during the run.
“It was an incredible fair,” said N.C. Agriculture Commissioner Steve Troxler. “Everywhere I looked I saw smiling faces, families making special memories and plenty of agriculture on display. We saw strong attendance every day but the rain day, which was not unexpected. Our numbers were on par with the 2025 attendance minus the rain day. Thank you to everyone who joined us for the 2026 State Fair.”
Record Bids, Community Giving, and Military Honors
Agricultural traditions and community outreach served as major pillars for this year’s fairgrounds schedule:
-
Record Junior Livestock Sale: The final day featured a record-breaking Junior Livestock Sale of Champions, bringing in $234,000 in bids to support champion animal entries and the junior livestock scholarship program.
-
Hunger Relief Drive: Fairgoers donated 203,783 pounds of food to the Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina during Smithfield Foods Hunger Relief Day. The collected donations will provide more than 170,000 meals, marking an increase of 20,000 meals over 2025 totals.
-
Military Appreciation: The fair hosted 8,427 military members and guests during Military Appreciation Day, sponsored by Duke Energy.
-
Farm Families Honored: Eleven farm families representing agricultural production across North Carolina were recognized during the daily Tractor Supply Co. Farm Family of the Day showcase.
Grounds Upgrades and Midway Attractions
This year’s fair marked the unveiling of several major facility improvements and new midway attractions:
-
New Midway Event Center: Officials celebrated the opening of the Midway Event Center, marking the first new building constructed on the fairgrounds since 2006.
-
Facility Upgrades: The fair opened a newly constructed Flower Show Building alongside completed renovations to the historic Holshouser Building and the Commercial and Education Buildings.
-
America 250 Ferris Wheel: Standing 230 feet tall, the world’s largest portable Ferris wheel operated on the midway, featuring 45 presidential-themed gondolas and patriotic lighting.
-
Village of Yesterday Milestone: Craftsmen and visitors celebrated the 75th anniversary of the Village of Yesterday exhibit.
Competitions and Novelty Entries
Competitive exhibits saw broad state participation, recording over 24,000 general and livestock registrations. Highlights included the return of commercial and amateur country ham judging, the amateur wine competition, and the debuts of plein air painting and diamond art categories.
Fairgoers also viewed a Guinness World Record-eligible Tromboncino squash—nicknamed “Troy”—which measured four feet, 10.9 inches in length.
The N.C. Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services announced that the 2027 N.C. State Fair will take place Oct. 14–24, 2027, coinciding with the 75th anniversary of Dorton Arena.
