COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC — Columbus County is facing several days of dangerous heat, with forecasters warning that conditions from Monday through Friday may reach advisory‑level thresholds. The National Weather Service in Wilmington reports that heat index values could climb above 105 degrees during the afternoon hours.

County officials say the combination of high temperatures, elevated humidity, and light winds will make it difficult for the body to cool itself. Residents in communities such as Whiteville, Tabor City, Chadbourn, and Lake Waccamaw may experience hazardous conditions, particularly those working outdoors or without adequate cooling.

Emergency managers recommend drinking water frequently, avoiding prolonged exposure to direct sunlight, and checking on vulnerable neighbors. Cooling options are available in several municipal buildings during normal operating hours.

The National Weather Service says additional alerts may be issued if heat indices rise higher than currently forecast. Conditions are expected to remain oppressive until a shift in the weather pattern arrives over the weekend.
