HORRY COUNTY, SC — The National Weather Service in Wilmington, NC says dangerous heat will continue across Horry County through Friday, with temperatures and humidity combining to produce heat index values well over 100 degrees each afternoon.
Forecasters report that the region is entering a multi‑day stretch of oppressive conditions, driven by high pressure and limited cloud cover. Heat indices are expected to peak between 105 and 110 degrees, creating hazardous conditions for anyone spending extended time outdoors.
Horry County Emergency Management urges residents and visitors to take precautions, including staying hydrated, limiting strenuous activity during the hottest part of the day, and seeking air‑conditioned spaces when possible. Officials say heat‑related medical calls typically increase during periods like this, especially in areas with heavy outdoor activity such as Myrtle Beach, North Myrtle Beach, Surfside Beach, and Carolina Forest.
The National Weather Service notes that additional heat advisories may be issued as conditions evolve. Relief is not expected until a weak front approaches the region late in the week.
