INMATES FACING NEW CHARGES AFTER ASSAULTS AT COUNTY JAIL AND PRISON

WHITEVILLE, NC — Two separate assault incidents involving law enforcement and correctional personnel were reported at Whiteville detention facilities early Monday morning.

At approximately 12:21 a.m. on Oct. 5, Corporal Christopher Cotton responded to an incident at the Columbus County Detention Center on Prison Camp Road, where a 34-year-old male inmate allegedly assaulted officers Anthony Braddy and Evander Holland.

Later that morning, at 3:12 a.m., Corporal Cotton logged a second assault report at Columbus Correctional Institution. A 19-year-old male inmate is accused of assaulting correctional officer Roy Long. Both cases have been submitted for formal criminal prosecution.

All individuals named in this report are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law. Charges and case statuses may change as investigations and court proceedings continue.
