UPDATE: Brunswick County Public Utilities has now downgraded its Stage 2 Mandatory Water Conservation Alert to Stage 1 Voluntary following improved conditions and reduced demand.
Drought conditions continue; automated outdoor irrigation restricted
BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC — Brunswick County Public Utilities is reminding all customers that the Stage 2 Mandatory Water Conservation Alert remains in effect as drought conditions are sticking across the region. The alert applies to everyone on the county’s system – neighborhoods, businesses, wholesale partners, and new developments.
Under Stage 2, automated outdoor irrigation is limited and must follow county‑issued restrictions. Public Utilities says these steps help ensure there’s enough water for everyday needs, emergency services, and the people who rely on the system the most.
While the county has made baby steps with the rain already received, officials say conditions in many areas still remain dry enough to require continued conservation.
Brunswick County has enacted a burn ban for unincorporated areas, and several towns have issued their own local burn bans due to increased fire risk. The North Carolina Forest Service has not issued a statewide ban, but local restrictions remain in place until conditions improve.
Public Utilities continues to monitor water demand and drought indicators and will update customers if conditions change or additional measures are needed.
