DELCO, NC — A Columbus County Sheriff’s Office deputy was shot early Wednesday morning during a pursuit and foot chase on the east end of Columbus County, according to an urgent update released by CCSO.
The incident began at approximately 7:53 a.m. when a deputy attempted to initiate a traffic stop and the driver fled, prompting a pursuit. CCSO says the suspect lost control of the vehicle and crashed before fleeing on foot. A deputy later encountered the suspect, and an altercation occurred, resulting in the deputy being shot. The suspect again fled on foot.
The sheriff’s office reports the deputy was transported to Novant Health New Hanover Regional Medical Center and is in stable condition.
A multi‑agency search is underway in the Delco area, with law enforcement concentrating efforts around Prosper Road and nearby communities. Residents are urged to avoid the area, secure their homes and vehicles, and call 911 if they observe suspicious activity.
