Longtime leader at J. Reuben Long Detention Center recognized by county officials, Sheriff Thompson, and family for four decades of dedication.

CONWAY, SC — Horry County Council officially recognized Captain Sharon Myers during Tuesday’s council meeting, celebrating her 40 years of service at the J. Reuben Long Detention Center.

County leaders, colleagues, and family members gathered to honor Myers, who stands as one of the longest-serving employees in the facility’s history. During the recognition, Director of Public Safety Renee Hardwick highlighted Myers’ reliability, describing her as a dependable mainstay throughout her four-decade career.

Horry County Sheriff Phillip Thompson praised Myers for her adaptability and deep operational knowledge across all aspects of detention operations.

“Think about all of the changes we’ve seen in 40 years. Sharon always steps up. I can’t think of a job at the jail that she hasn’t done. She is an exemplary employee,” Sheriff Thompson said.

Myers was joined in the council chambers by supportive family and colleagues, including her five-week-old grandson.
